Common Queries
Q – How would you know that you have heart disease?
Ans – Common symptoms of heart disease are:
- Chest Pain (Angina)
- Shortness of breath (Dyspnoea)
- Palpitation (Feeling Of Own Heart Beats)
- Syncope (Transient loss of consciousness for a few seconds)
- Swelling of feet (Pedal Edema)
It is essential to recognize symptoms of heart disease early to prevent significant damage to the heart by timely treatment. Remember, the part of the heart (and almost any organ in the body) once damaged, never recovers fully. Hence, prevention is better than cure to live a long healthy life.
Q – What are atypical symptoms of heart disease which may be missed?
- Unexplained fatigue or lethargy – Decreased intensity or duration of the same activity which a person is doing daily for a long time. E.g – Morning walk, household work, etc
- Sense of fullness behind the sternum or upper abdomen (epigastrium). Gaseous distension or acidity like symptoms, belching, nausea, decreased appetite.
Remember… Heart symptoms maybe just like acidity and early diagnosis of heart disease may be missed by just treating these symptoms as acidity without basic cardiac tests like ECG, Echocardiography, and TMT (Treadmill Test).
Q – Which patients have high chances of atypical heart symptoms?
- Diabetics
- Females, particularly obese females
- Age more than 60 years
So, recognize these symptoms and get timely evaluation and advice from our experienced Cardiologists.
